Elon Musk Unveils Tesla's Humanoid Robot, Raises Eyebrows Over Autonomy Claims
During Tesla's recent Cybercab event, Tesla CEO Elon Musk took center stage to reveal the company's humanoid robot, Optimus. The event, held with much fanfare, captured the audience's attention as the robots performed a range of activities such as dancing and pouring drinks—amazing feats that initially left the crowd in awe.
However, the excitement was dampened when it was later revealed that these robots were not operating autonomously. Despite appearing to interact with guests in real-time, investigations disclosed that human operators were behind the scenes controlling Optimus's actions. This revelation raised skepticism about Tesla's ambitious claims surrounding its humanoid robot capabilities.
Renowned tech influencer Robert Scoble was able to confirm the human assistance involved after engaging with Tesla engineers at the event. This isn't the first time Tesla has faced such scrutiny. Back in January, during a similar demonstration, analysts had highlighted instances of human intervention in what were initially portrayed as autonomous operations.
Despite these challenges, Elon Musk remained optimistic, making bold promises about the future of Optimus. He suggested that these robots could eventually be performing household tasks and might be sold at a price range of $20,000 to $30,000. Yet, for all the zeal and bold projections, many remain skeptical about how soon these advancements in autonomy will actually see fruition.
The unveiling comes at a time when Tesla's stock (TSLA) is valued at $217.979, amid an atmosphere of anticipation and skepticism alike, as the company continues to push the envelope on technological innovation while grappling with public trust issues due to discrepancies in their tech demonstrations.
While Musk's declarations have always aimed to set new benchmarks in technology, the jury is still out on when Tesla will deliver a fully autonomous humanoid robot capable of performing the tasks it promises—and doing so without any human aid.
Recent Tesla news, covering everything from stock investments to market performance, continues to keep the business world watching closely. The company's developments and forward-looking statements regularly influence its stock position and investor outlook.
